    To the Reader

    Loving Reader, Remember that you and adhere or cleave to that, and contend for it, and by this thou shalt manifest that thou hath chosen the best, for the most amiable and most worthy of love.

    And hereunto we exhort the Reader to have a special care, where he suffers his soul to fix. If the best be not the most lovely, then is he deceived in adhering to it; and that deceit will come unto him from the propriety of the flesh.

    Therefore the Humanity hath great cause to call and pray to God for wisdom and understanding that he might obtain from God a distinction between the heavenly Spirit and the earthly Spirit, to the end that he might make her adherence to the heavenly Spirit: For to whom the humanity adhereth, the same gets the predominancy or upper hand in her heart.
