    English poet, pamphleteer, and Puritan soldier whose vast body of work ranges from pastoral lyrics and satirical verse to devotional hymns and prophetic writings. His later works increasingly reflect a millenarian and mystical spirituality.

    A long prophetic poem composed during the 1625 plague, combining personal meditation, national lament, and apocalyptic warning. Wither urges England to read the pestilence as divine judgment and calls for spiritual reformation.
