    Joanna Southcott

    Joanna Southcott(1750–1814)

English self-proclaimed prophet whose apocalyptic writings and 'divine communications' attracted a devoted following in the 1790s and after. She became notorious for end-times predictions—including her late-life claim that she would bear a messianic child, 'Shiloh'—and for the legend of 'Joanna Southcott's Box,' a sealed cache of prophecies to be opened only in a national crisis in the presence of 24 bishops.

    The Dial's edition: London, 1823

This collection gathers 'divine communications'—transcribed messages Southcott said were revealed to her by God—alongside prophetic tracts that interpret contemporary crises as signs that the Second Coming and Apocalypse were near. Listed in The Dial as Southcott's Tracts.
